day eight
5/21/15
Today we went to the Belize natural energy plant to test the workers. This is the best job in the country and the men working there can't afford to be sick one day because they will be replaced easily. That made the men way more interested in the test results and the learn more about their meanings. I mainly worked on the blood testing or cholesterol and glucose. We had three machines going at a time, two for cholesterol because those tests take three minutes and one on glucose because that takes twelve seconds. The timing was difficulty with pricking and getting the blood on a cholesterol strip and a glucose one back to back in order to not have to prick people twice. After the first few people we got an order down better. Other people also tested height, weight, heart rate, and blood pressure. We used these numbers to group people in healthy, low risk and High risk. We used these groupings to split up the men to talk to them about exercise and eating habits. Sam and I talked to a man that is a fire fighter there about his blood pressure. It was a little high but he works out every day and high blood pressure runs in his family. After that we went to get some if cream before dinner.
