preparing for Belize
In preparing for the trip we met once a month throughout this past semester and two days of orientation during the week before we leave to plan and prepare. A major aspect to the trip is the medical knowledge and skills that everyone in the group have learned to use. We learned how to take blood pressure, teach basic CPR, ankle taping, wrist taping, and take and interpret blood glucose and cholesterol. We also worked in groups to create pamphlets to teach and handout on understanding glucose, cholesterol, HIV/AIDS, and teenage pregnancy. All the information collected for these pamphlets is data pertaining specifically to the Belizean population, so when we talk to them they can better understand what it means for their life. During the two days of orientation we fine tuned the skills and knowledge necessary to teach the Belizean's about their own health and how it can be improved.
